Programs at Lucky Lake School

Our school is a K-12 school.  Kindergarten is a basic skills program that attempts to prepare the students for grade one entry.  Grade one to nine students follow an extensive academic program with all subjects oriented toward expanding the students' abilities in the basic skills, while developing analytical skills and successful applications.  In addition to their regular courses the grade seven to nine students also being Home Economics, Industrial Arts and Career Guidance.

Grade ten students are required to take a full subject load of ten credits.  Driver Education is offered as a non-credit course. Please note that Grade ten to twelve Math is split into two different courses.  Instead of just Math 10, the students will be required to take two math credits – Workplace and Apprenticeship Math, and Math Foundations.  In grades eleven and twelve, three math courses are available to students.

Grade eleven students have English 20, Workplace and Apprenticeship Math 20, and Math Foundations 20, and History 30, ELA A30 as compulsory subjects.

Grade twelve students have English A30 and B30 and History 30 as the only compulsory credits.  However, to obtain a Grade 12 standing the student must obtain at least five credits at the 30 level with at least one 20 level Math and Science and a total of 24 credits overall.

Optional courses are offered at Lucky Lake School to all grade eleven and twelve students including choices of Practical and Applied Arts courses, such as Industrial Arts, Building Construction, Autobody, Food Studies and other Home Economics modules.

Grade eleven and twelve students also have the option of Distance Learning options for a wider range of courses.  This includes online and print courses.  Students who wish to drop courses must do so within one month of the start of the semester.  If a student decides on a Distance Course, they will be assigned to a room and will be expected to be there for the duration of that period.

The Resource Room continues to play an important part in the education of our students with special needs.  Programs are designed to meet the needs of individual students through the joint efforts of the Student Support Teacher, the Classroom Teacher, Educational Assistants, the Division Special Education Consultant, and Shared Services Personnel.  These programs are integrated as much as possible into the regular schedule of the student.  However, in some cases the students may require specific skills development that can be best provided in the Resource Room.
